hello people.
suddenly i feel like taking a visit to tanjong katong secondary school again.
but current circumstances do not allow me to have as much freedom as previously, and the seemingly best time that i can next go back.......national day celebrations........ my school has taken a step deeper..... engage us in activities that make us dismiss the whole school not much earlier than how half the school cohort usually end....... which school, seriously, ends this type of celebrations way beyond NOON.....
and so i shall make a hypothesis significance test....
Let p be the population proportion of the days i go back to tk.
sample size n = 60 (assume 2 months ago till now)
(want me to write out the formula? not here, too hard)
sample proportion ps = 2/60 = 1/30
- H0 (null hypothesis): p = 0.08
H1 (alternate hypothesis): p < 0.08
at the 5% level of significance
- Reject H0 if Zcalc < -1.960
- Under H0, Ps ~ N (p, pq/n). The test statistic is Z=
Ps - p
----------
(pq/n)^½
Zcalc = (1/30 - 0.08) / [(1/30)(29/30)/60]^½
Zcalc = -2.013
Since Zcalc < -1.960, it lies in the critical region, we reject H0 and accept H1. Thus,there is sufficient evidence, at the 5% level of significance, that the population proportion of the days i go back to tk is less than 0.08.
i think i may have contracted an "illness" similar to weiee's almost exactly 2 years ago [22/7/2004 post - fluids] (so u can see what happens to us because of A levels).... BYE BYE. i need more sleep, and more hypothetical thoughts.
yours statistically,
Chuan Zhi
